Firstly a Link farm is a group of website’s that join together - its basically where hyperlinks link to all the other website’s in the group this generally helps to boost there ranking within the search engines . When Link Farms first began they were great as they were done by hand but now there mostly computerised whereby programs have been set up to design the link farms - this is really bad, as there are unscrupulous webmasters that receive inbound links but have created ways to hide there outbound links or are just avoiding to obtain any links on there web page to gain a higher ranking for themselves.
Quality Links are much better for your web page than quantity, some Disadvantages of link Farming that you will find is when you create links to your website you may receive totally unrelated websites that don’t have any resemblance to your web page, This is also known as link stuffing, Link farms normally don’t provide much usefulness to your web page as it hasn’t been done manually therefore you will get a lot of sites that don’t mean anything to you.
Google absolutely hate link farming and if caught doing so then you can be penalised for it and they will also penalise sites that have linked to it, Google don’t like it because it manipulates the search engine listings which makes the results false.
From an SEO’S perspective Link farms are a big No No, It is much better to link build then you will receive related links to your website pushing you higher within the search engine rankings.
Take my advice and don’t let your web page get caught up within link farming, avoid linking to sites that are unrelated to yours this really is just a waste of time and effort as it won’t get you ranked higher within the search engines. Try also not to let other sites link to yours that aren’t related to your topic.
There are spammer’s out there that can do your web page harm just so there web page can rank higher, just to pre - warn you if a website wants to link to yours but it already has a lot of unrelated sites to there website don’t link to them - avoid it like the plague!, Or if a website has little content its not really worth your while to link to there web page as there not likely to rank highly within the search engine.
