Keyword Meta Tags
Keyword Meta Tags are one of the most important, yet often left out pieces of code in a web document. The keyword Meta Tag tells the search engines what the keywords are for the specific web page. This is essential as unless the search engines know what to look for, they will have a hard time ranking your web page for the keywords you want.
What Keywords to Choose?
What you write within the keywords Meta Tag depends entirely on the keywords you have focused on within the web page. Before writing any content, we suggest looking at the keyword research Blog and the what is keyword density? Blog. These two Blogs should explain how to choose specific keywords and how to include them within the content of your web page without the search engines considering it spamming. Once you have chosen the keywords you want and have wrote content that consists of the keywords then you are able to add them to the Meta Tags.
Meta Tag Spamming
As a general rule you should be able to write content without it sounding too crammed full of keywords. This enables you to insert the correct amount of keywords (is has to be noted that there is no specific ‘correct’ amount’). Yet, if you were to fill the Meta Tag with for example 25 keywords then the search engines would consider this to be spamming and will discount it.
Meta Tag Example
<meta name=“keywords” content=“SEO Manual, keyword, Meta Tags” />
The Meta name describes what the Tag is identifying, the content contains each keyword split up by a comma.
Summary
As a summary we suggest reading the previous Blogs about copywriting and keyword densities. Once content has been written successfully the keywords can easily be inserted into the Keyword Meta tags. The Meta Tag is very important in telling the search engines what to look for within the content of a web page.
