What is MSN?
MSN stands for Microsoft Network and is an internet service provider that has many other different web based services, including: Hotmail and MSN messenger. These services are now recognised as being part of Windows Live, which although Microsoft is behind both of them, MSN and Windows Live are both separate websites that just link to one another but MSN uses Windows Live services on their site, e.g. MSN offers a search engine, powered by windows live.
MSN is now a widely used search engine that uses many different applications on its homepage, with up to date live news feeds, different ‘channels’ such as good health, fashion, sports, motoring, finance, entertainment, viral video links and many more. There are customisable pages that enable users to alter the look (skin) of the website according to their personal preferences. MSN also provides a comprehensive web directory. ‘My MSN’ is a personal based site within MSN which allows users to completely alter the look of MSN, according to their own interests, style and preferences. It enables the user to completely alter what information is available to them at a glance, with content being able to be removed, added and rearranged. This gives users a much more interactive experience when using the website.
Hotmail is an internet based email service supported by Microsoft. It offers a free email address, with up to 5 GB of memory in your inbox. There is also a junk folder that automatically recognises any possible spam and directs it straight from your inbox and to the junk mail folder. Hotmail now has more than 380 million users throughout the world and is also available in 35 languages. Hotmail is a widely used email interface, proving very popular with people who wish to use the MSN instant messaging programme to keep in touch with family and friends as a quick, easy and free method.
MSN is still a widely used internet portal with many users and promoters. It also shows that the internet is not full of one trick pony’s, as MSN has so many features to offer and that can be taken advantage of by even the most techno phobic internet user.
