Part 2: Web page Optimisation.

Filed under: SEO — Kirsty @ 3:00 pm

Once you have chosen your keyphrase or keywords, the next step is to optimise your webpages in relation to your chosen keywords or phrases. This is done by positioning your chosen keywords of phrases within a specific location within the webpage. Below is a checklist that you should be able to follow to check your site is being optimise to its highest potential:

  • Key phrases in the web page title. – For your website this is very important as this is what the search engines display as a text link. This title must contain your main key phrases, whilst at the same time it must describe your business very well. Also make sure that title is no more than 8 words. Therefore unless your company is bigger than coco cola then don’t start your page title with the name of your company.
  • Key phrases in your Keyword Meta Tag- Search engines do not generally use Keyword Meta Tag any more and Google completely ignore them. However, they must be placed within the list of your chosen keywords in the Keyword Meta Tag of your page. I am sure you are aware at the moment search engines don’t pay a great amount of time on this area but it always help to have them complete incase they change their functionality.
  • Key phrases in your Description Meta Tag- Always remember to include keywords and phrases in your description Meta tag. Make sure it 25 words or less. Also don’t make your description sound just like a collection of keywords.
  • Keywords in the body of your page- In most cases it is always vital that you position you chosen keywords correctly within your web pages. This is due to the fact that it will help the search engines determine the topic of your page.
  • Other Web Page Design Considerations- You must always make your page easy to navigate by the search engines. Always try and avoid placing text in graphic format, as the search engines won’t read it and this just wont be beneficial.

These are pretty much all that has to be done to make sure that your page it optimised for your chosen keywords or phrases. The next and final step to increase your sites rankings is to get as many links to your site as possible. If you wish to understand this further, you need to see Part 3: Off-Site Factors.
