What is SEO?
SEO is short for search engine optimization. This basically means SEO helps you to get to the top of the search engine’s ranking by using ethical techniques. By using key density the search engines recognize this and when people type a certain keyword into the search engine the more keyword density is used the higher your chances of being at the top of the search engine will be. You don’t want to go too high with your keyword density though, as this can be classed as spamming and your website could be banned. If you go too low then you could risk the chance of the search engines not recognizing your website.
Ethical and Unethical Techniques
Ethical techniques are also known as ‘White hat SEO’ these comply to the search engines’ rules. These outline what is allowed and what the search engines will accept. While Unethical Techniques are known as ‘Black hat SEO’ this involves spamming, hidden text and keyword stuffing. Your website will be at risk of being banned if you do any of the above. Spamming can mean writing irrelevant content, that doesn’t make sense, or is repeating itself over and with the key word mentioned numerous times but not making sense.
You can also hide text which is known as keyword stuffing this is an example of writing the key word over and over so the content is not readable and doesn’t make sense and then changing the colour of the text to match the colour of the website. Just because it’s not noticeable to the public, the search engines still recognize this and this is classed as hidden text, which could ban your website.
Ethical Techniques are certain rules that the search engines put into place to make sure that websites oblige to them. You should make sure your key densities are not too high and not to low to be recognised by the search engines and get your website in just the right position so when keywords are typed into the search engine your website is easily recognisable.
