What makes a Viral?
A viral is something that is or has been spread to hundreds, thousands and even millions of people; great for marketing and SEO. Typical virals are photos, videos and even comic strips. With the internet and ease of communication it is even easier to spread the word (or whatever it may be) across the globe.
Why will someone send it to someone else?
There are a few factors that need to be met before getting an idea viral. Firstly, if the audience understands the topic, and they ‘get it’ instantly then that is the main hurdle out of the way. Furthermore, if the audience feels that it is funny and they want to tell their friends then they will send it to them. The way in which it spreads may be across a whole range of medium; from the internet to mobile phones.
It also has to be easy to spread, which is more often than not the case now anyway due to the enhancements in communications across the world. Common virals include political issues, A-List celebrities and general mickey-taking.
Can I make one myself?
Of course, if you have an idea for something funny or a video you think many people will enjoy then send it to your friends. Tell them to send it to their friends and see what happens. You never know you could be the next Chris Crocker - ‘Leave Britney Alone’ guy! If you have an idea, maybe something based on current issues then you have a chance of getting some of your ideas being spread across the net.
Use Technology
There are so many opportunities to spread an idea. Social Networking websites, Email, Bloggers etc These are to name but a few. If you think you have an idea then go for it, you can’t lose anything from it. If you do become an instant hit then all the more better for you. Entertainment for everyone at the cost of an hours work doctoring an image or thinking up a funny comic strip.
